About us

Welcome to the Limay River Ranch! Located on 80,000 acres out in the high desert landscape of Argentine Patagonia, the Limay River Ranch offers unparalleled access to the crystal clear waters of the Limay tailwater. We pioneered this fishery back in the early 2000s and were shocked by its trout. After taking a few seasons to learn the intricacies of the river, we spent 16 years working on securing the best property in the valley. In 2021, we were finally able to start construction on the lodge. We opened our doors for the 2022 season with 30 years of experience in the outfitting business.

The Limay River Ranch offers supremely comfortable accommodations, a casual atmosphere, and first-class service and food.

With the river right out the front door, logistics won’t limit the fishing day for hardcore anglers, and anglers wanting a more relaxed daily schedule can be easily accommodated.

From the often prolific hatches to monster brown trout, the Limay offers an extremely diverse fishing experience. It’s common to fish multiple rods and techniques over the course of a normal fishing day, using 0X-5X to swing skated dries, drift large attractors, fish the drop-offs and riffles with small droppers, and target rising fish. This Patagonia tailwater offers trout populations on par with many of the U.S. tailwaters, with the same opportunities and challenges offered by such a rich fishery.

We hope you might join us at the Limay River Ranch for your next trip to Patagonia.

Fly Fishing for Wild Trout on the Limay River

Testimonials

I had the good fortune to spend a week with Ron Sorensen’s Chocolate Lab Expeditions in Patagonia in February 2022. It was a week of spectacular fishing and accommodations on the Chimehuin and Limay Rivers. On my first day on the Chimehuin I caught 72 trout, not including the 16 that got away! His guides are first class and the two lodges, the River House, and his new Limay River Ranch, are deluxe. The new lodge, of Sorensen’s own design, is also an architectural masterpiece consisting of progressive, contemporary ‘tiny home’ style modules/cottages surrounding a larger communal lodge space. It is unique amongst lodges around the world and affords the ultimate in comfort.

I’ve flyfished in virtually every Canadian province and U.S. state that has solid dry fly fishing. I’ve fished in Chile and Argentina, New Zealand and an assortment of other places. I only wish every lodge and outfitter was as outstanding as Ron Sorensen and his Chocolate Lab Expeditions. If there is a better river in the world than the Limay River in Argentina, I want to see video evidence.
